From Jetlag to Jingle Bells
Yup! I’m slowly adjusting to my routine after returning from the magical Christmas markets of Bavaria and Austria which have left my mind swirling with ideas. These markets were a feast for the senses, from the soft glow of twinkling lights strung across wooden stalls to the aroma of Glühwein warming the chilly air.
The decorations were endlessly inspiring—delicate glass ornaments, handmade wooden toys, and intricately carved nativity scenes. Every tree I saw seemed to outdo the last, adorned with a mix of traditional and whimsical decorations that gave each market its unique personality.
The food, too, was unforgettable: crisp pretzels – of which I had a few samples – wiener schnietzel, and hearty sausages paired perfectly with a steaming cup of the aforementioned Glühwein. These small delights reminded me how simple pleasures can spark creativity.
With just 12 days until the holidays, the calendar feels both exhilarating and daunting. There’s a unique energy to this time of year—a mix of joy for what’s to come and a twinge of pressure to make everything “perfect.” After weeks away, the to-do list feels even more pressing: unpacking from the trip, catching up on studio projects, and diving headfirst into holiday preparations.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the expectations—of hosting, decorating, finding the perfect gifts, or creating the right atmosphere. Yet, I remind myself that the holidays aren’t about perfection. They’re about connection, creativity, and joy. Sometimes, embracing imperfection is the key to actually enjoying the season.
Inspired by the trip, I’m blending holiday prep with creativity, adorning the tree with the new – few – Christmas decorations I brought back that capture the magic I experienced abroad. I will also have some Glühwein on hand – yum!. I’m finding joy in the process rather than worrying about perfection.
Now I’m off to wrap some presents and make more lists.
