Quiltfest Virtual Schoolhouse No. 7

Virtual Schoolhouse #7

I am very excited to once again be teaching virtually at Quiltfest Virtual Schoolhouse no. 7. The link to register is www.quiltfest.com. I am teaching two classes.

The first one is “Sophisticated Monoprinting with Masks and Stencils” – on Thursday, January 25th. It’s a 6 hour class where we will combine the use of the gelli plate with our own stencils and masks to create unique pieces of work. It is a fun and relaxing class. You will learn tips and tricks to be successful using the gelli plate. Discover a world of possibilities with this monoprinting technique that gives you the ability to print any shape you’d like to create unique pieces of art on fabric.

Here are some examples:

You do not need any experience for this class, as it’s simple to do and I will share with you lots of different ways to add texture and interest to your shapes.

Class no. 2 is ” Text on Textiles – A free motion workshop”. In this class, we will talk about ways to incorporate text into your work by using free-motion quilting. Yes, I know … some people cringe at this but … think about it. It’s the perfect way for you to try free-motion or get better at it as you work with small units, just letters. One letter at a time. I guarantee you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish! We’ll discuss spacing, what to write, and how to write it to achieve the effects you want. It’s a fun class! Lots of samples and ways to write will be demonstrated.

Here are a few examples:

I will talk about the samples I’ve created and give you lots of ideas to create your own text. Supplies are simple and I can say that you probably have everything you need at home: some white or light coloured fabric, thread, your sewing machine and your choice of text to practice with. Care to join me?

I’d love to see you in one of these classes. If you need any more information, I’ll have happy to help. Leave a comment below and I’ll get in touch.

Until I write again, stay warm and keep making wonderful stuff,

Ana
