I am teaching at the World Quilt Show Online – August 11-14
Good morning from a gray and cloudy day in Calgary. We have managed to survive the heat wave as best as we could and now we are looking at a week of cloudy days and rain. Oh well … that’s Calgary weather for you. Today it is nice and cool and I, for one, am not complaining. The peonies are blooming, the tomatoes and strawberries are ripening and the flowers seem to be happy. All’s well in my garden.
On other news, there’s still time to register for classes at the World Quilt Show Online – August 11th to 14th. Lots of great instructors and classes to choose from. I am teaching three workshops, as follows:
Monoprinting: Working with Layers on August 11th – 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT
Monoprints combine the spontaneity of printed paints and fabric, creating a surface that is unlike any other. It is the most painterly method among the printmaking techniques.
Students will use water-based paint on Gelli Plates, utilizing various techniques: masking, multiple drop printing, colour mixing, etc. and will play with textures and random materials to create several pieces that can serve as underpaintings for future work or stand alone as a body of work.
This class is open to all levels. No experience necessary. Follow the link to register. I offer an optional kit that you can order directly from my Store with materials that we will use to create stamps and plates to use on the gelli plate. Lots of textures included in the kit. Paintstiks sold separately.
Paintstiks on Fabric – August 12th – 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EDT
Come to class to spend a fun and relaxing time using Paintstiks on Fabric. Explore different ways in which you can use Paintstiks to embellish fabric and create personal prints. Students will create some rubbing plates to work with.Paintstiks are easy to use as they are creamy and thick. Different techniques to use the Paintstiks will be shown. Beware: it’s addictive!
Once again, you don’t need to have any experience. Open to all levels. Click on the link to register.

Rocks, Pebbles & Stones, Oh My! – August 13th – 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EDT
This is the third workshop I’m teaching. And it’s a favourite of mine. Work at your own pace, as there is no need for sewing machines, you can sit in your favourite chair and follow along to create these rocks. Make a few, make a lot. Plenty of time to work on them during class and learn how to incorporate them into your work. I have lots of examples to show you. This is a 3-hour workshop where you will learn how to make the rocks and two different techniques to incorporate them into your art pieces.
I offer an optional kit that has all the materials you’ll need for class: background fabric, rock fabrics, hoop, thread, even a needle! You’ll need to provide scissors, a glue stick and a few other easy to get items. Kits can be found in my Store under Kits.

I hope you will join me for one of these workshops. I look forward to seeing you in class. In the meantime, enjoy your Summer and keep creating!
