November Online Courses
I can’t believe it’s almost November. Where has this year gone? I’m sitting here in my studio looking out the window. Last week’s snow is almost gone, and we are going to have some nice weather this weekend.
I’ve been working to bring you some new workshops and some old favourites and I’m happy to say that they are online now and you’ll find them all in the Store. All the workshops have a choice of two dates. I’ve tried to have some morning, afternoon and evening classes as well as weekend classes, so I hope you’ll find one you’d like to join me for. If you don’t see the class you’d like at a time that works for you, drop me a note. There’s another option: if you have a group of friends (minimum of 6) and you’d like to have a separate class with me on any subject, leave me a comment or contact me through my website. We’ll talk options for dates and times.
And with that out of the way, let’s talk about the classes I’m offering in November. A few more to come …
Introduction to Transfer Artist Paper – TAP
Transfer images easily onto your work with Transfer Artist Paper or TAP.
In this 2-hour live-stream class, we’ll explore different ways to use TAP to achieve different results. We will be working on a fat quarter of fabric so by the end of the class you’ll have a small piece you’ll be able to quilt or make into a pillow.
An optional kit is available with images printed in TAP paper for your use. The first 5 people to sign up for the class will receive an extra sheet of printed images.
Dates are Friday, November 6th at 1:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. MDT
Acrylic Skins
I’m really excited about this new 2-hour workshop where you’ll learn to create acrylic skins to use in your work. These acrylic skins require few supplies and are fun and addictive to make and will add an element of surprise and interest to your artwork: quilts, sketchbooks, painting, collages, etc.
I will show you different ways to create the acrylic skins. Part of this workshop will be a demo on different products you can use to prepare the skins, how to finish them and how to apply them to your work.
Dates are Saturday November 7th at 9:00 a.m. MDT or 1:00 p.m. MDT
Rubbings and Paintstiks on Fabric
In this 3-hour class, you will explore ways in which to use Paintstiks to embellish fabric and create personal prints. You can paint, stencil, and rub with them. Paintstiks are easy to use as they are creamy and thick. You will spend some time making rubbing plates to use during the class. Different ideas to use the Paintstiks will be shown. Beware: it’s addictive!
An optional kit containing supplies needed to make rubbing plates is available in the Store. Paintstiks sold separately in the Store.
Dates are Tuesday, November 10th at 9:00 a.m. MDT and at 6:00 p.m. MDT
Make your Quilts Sing with Digital Imagery – Editing Photos on PowerPoint
In this 1.5 hour workshop, I’ll be demonstrating how to use PowerPoint, a slide show presentation program developed by Microsoft (available for PC and Mac) to edit photos and remove backgrounds, layer images to make collages, change colours, add artistic effects, etc. This is a user-friendly way to edit and manipulate photos without the use of complex photo-editing software.
This workshop will be a demo where I’ll share my screen and you’ll be able to see me working on PowerPoint. A PDF with the information will be shared at the end of the class.
Dates are November 21st at 2:00 p.m. MDT and November 24th at 9:00 a.m. MDT
Sophisticated Monoprinting with Stencils and Masks
Discover a world of possibilities with this monoprinting technique that gives you the ability to print any shape you’d like: from circles, to uneven shapes, thin or thick lines, rounded rectangles …
A monoprint is a one-of-a-kind print so each design will be unique. The irregular nature of the shapes comes from using stencils and masks together in the same print.
Join me in this 3-hour live-stream class and I’ll show you how to combine stencils and masks on a gelli plate (or plexiglass plate) using fabric or acrylic paints to achieve unique designs.
Dates are November 26th at 9:00 a.m. MDT and November 28th at 1:00 p.m. MDT
Rocks, Pebbles & Stones, Oh My!
Ever since I was a small child, I’ve loved rocks, pebbles and stones. My dad would say that it was difficult to go for a walk with me because I would stop every two steps to look at something on the ground. Even now, I cannot resist going by a rock without wondering if I should keep it.
It was natural to me to find a way to incorporate these shapes into my work. Join me in this 3-hour live-stream online workshop to make rocks, pebbles and stones and learn two different techniques to incorporate them into your art pieces. The workshop is all done by hand; no sewing machine required. The optional kit for Rocks, Pebbles & Stones, Oh my! includes my hand-dyed fabrics for background and rocks, batting samples, template plastic, hoop, thread and needle. Option of background fabric available. Find them in the Store under Kits.
Dates are November 24th at 1:00 p.m. MDT and November 28th at 9:00 a.m. MDT
Hope you can join me for some of these workshops. You’ll find all choices with dates and times in the Store, under Online Courses.
Thanks for reading. Keep creating!
