A Visit to the Central Alberta Quilt Show

After quite a few years, I finally returned to the Central Alberta Quilt Show in Red Deer held on May 9th and 10th. Thank you Gail for the invitation to join you and for the driving!
As one of the quilting shows in the province, it plays an important role in keeping our quilting community connected and inspired. This year’s event featured over 40 vendors and more than 200 quilts competing across a variety of categories—a true celebration of the time, effort, and creativity that go into this art. It was great to be surrounded by fellow makers, browse the vendor booths, and soak in the atmosphere of a show that continues to bring Alberta quilters together.
Here are some of the quilts that caught my eye.

The range of work on display was quite varied—from intricate hand quilting to bold machine-stitched pieces, and from soft pastels to vibrant jewel tones. While most followed traditional patterns, the fabric choices, colour palettes, and finishing touches gave each quilt its own personality.

And a few more:

It was heartening to see such dedication and enthusiasm from quilters across the region, and to be reminded of how much work goes into putting on a show like this.. If you’re in Alberta and have the chance to attend in the future, I’d definitely recommend making the trip—it’s a great way to support the local quilting community and stay connected to the broader world of textile art.
I hope you enjoyed this brief glimpse into the Central Alberta Quilt Show—a wonderful event that brings together skill, tradition, and a strong sense of community. It’s always inspiring to see the dedication behind each stitch and to be reminded of the many ways quilting continues to thrive. Whether you’re a maker or an admirer, shows like this offer a chance to connect, learn, and celebrate the art we love.
Thanks for reading, until I write again, keep making …
