Virtual Schoolhouse #13 – Registration is Open

Happy Thanksgiving weekend! I hope everyone finds a little time to gather with family and friends. In our house, the smell of turkey will fill the air. We’re a small group this year, but I’m so thankful to spend the day with my kids and grandchild. We’ll eat, play games, and enjoy a relaxing afternoon together — and maybe my daughter and I will even sneak in a bit of sewing.
I am excited to be once again teaching for QuiltFest – Virtual Schoolhouse #13 in January 2026. I am teaching two full-day classes – two of my all-time favourites: Monoprinting and Embellished Rocks.
On January 21st, during the Embellished Rocks workshop, we’ll explore how to turn small pieces of different fabrics into beautifully textured “rocks.” You’ll combine hand-painted, hand-printed, and commercial fabrics to create your own rock formations, appliqué them onto a background, and then bring them to life with simple hand stitches and embellishments.
It’s a relaxing and creative workshop where you’ll discover how layering, colour, and texture can transform even the smallest fabric scraps into something truly unique. Whether you’re new to stitching or an experienced textile artist, this class is all about slowing down, exploring, and finding beauty in the details.

And on January 22nd, I’ll be teaching an all time favourite – of mine and my students’ – Monoprinting – From Basics to Sophistication. We’ll start by creating stamping plates, then explore monoprinting on Gelli Plates using water-based paints. You’ll experiment with masking, multiple drop printing, color mixing, and textures — plus, you’ll discover how random materials can create unexpected and exciting results.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a series of unique pieces that can stand alone or serve as underpaintings for future work. Be warned — it’s fun, creative, and wonderfully addictive! Whether you’re new to printmaking or an experienced maker, this class is all about experimenting, exploring, and discovering the joy of mark-making in fabric.

I hope you will consider joining me for one or both workshops. I guarantee we will have fun! I look forward to seeing you then.
Enjoy your weekend. Until I write again,
Ana
