Two Brand New Workshops added for April
Good afternoon,
It’s the end of March already and here in Calgary we are still shovelling snow. But … Spring is in the air and exciting things are in our future.
Covid 19 is still affecting our lives, but vaccinations are available for those who want them and hopefully, lockdowns, masks, social distancing and stay-at-home directives will be part of our very interesting past soon enough. In the meantime, keep being vigilant and taking steps to protect yourself, your family and others.
In my studio, great things are happening. I’m very happy to introduce you to two new workshops I’m launching online. I know that some of you have been waiting for these, so I hope you’ll be as excited as I am. Without further ado:
Simple Landscapes with Stitch and Paint – DATE CORRECTED
Landscapes are popular. Simple landscapes are even more popular as they are fast and easy to make. Lots of possibilities, lots of options, lots of designs to add to them to customize your landscape. The fabrics you choose will determine the mood of your landscape.
This is a two-day workshop with time in between to do the free-motion quilting and get ready for the painting portion of the course. This workshop will take place on April 22nd from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and April 29th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. MDT. 5 hours to explore how to make landscapes using simple curves that require no marking and no pinning!
On Session one (April 15th ), the landscape will be sewn together with ample time to explore different shapes like wedges and skinny lines. The design will be drawn and a free-motion demonstration will take place so you can see how I quilt these landscapes using some favourite designs.
Session II (April 22nd) will cover the painting portion of the workshop plus we will discuss beading, adding hand-stitching for texture and interest , and a few ideas on how to display your landscape. And I have a few more surprises! Here’s the link to get to the workshop.
Text on Textiles – A Free-Motion Workshop
This workshop is dear to me. I LOVE text, letters, font, calligraphy, quotes, lyrics in all fonts, shapes and forms. I am attracted to them. I cut them out of magazines and paste them on a sketchbook. I have books on quotes, and sketchbooks full of favourite quotes, sayings, paragraphs I read that resonate with me, things I hear that I identify with … you get the idea.
It was natural that a few years back I decided to start adding text to my work. And thus, the workshop was born! This is a 3-hour online workshop on April 15th at 9:00 a.m. MDT where you’ll use your own favourite quote, lyrics or phrase. We’ll experiment with spacing and I’ll show you how to free-motion text on fabric. We will discuss legible vs. illegible; focal points, shaping the words, etc.
Don’t let the “free-motion” part of the workshop scare you or keep you away. No experience necessary. All levels. Everyone is welcome. This is a good way to start your free-motion adventure.
This is all about what YOU have to say and how YOU want to say it. I’ll share with you lots of examples and ideas to incorporate words and text in your work. Here and there or everywhere as overall texture. Here is how you register.
So? Won’t you join me? What do you think? Will I see you there? Spread the word and share with your friends.
Thanks for reading. I hope you have a good weekend. Keep creating,
Ana
