Quilting Arts Calendar Challenge 2010 – Part II
It’s me again. Here’s the second piece I sent for the Quilting Arts Calendar Challenge 2010 “Flavor of the Month”. This one was not selected as a finalist, but thought you’d like to see it. It is called “This is my mother” and it is for the month of May, in honor of mothers everywhere:
During the month of May we celebrate Mothers. This is my mother, Fini, who changed her work hours at the office so she could be home when my sister and I got back from school (simply because home wasn’t home without her in it); who taught me to sew and love art in all its forms; who was always there to listen and advice; who kissed hurts to make them better; and scolded when needed. She became my best friend once I grew up. We lost her 7 years ago, and not a day goes by that I don’t miss her.
Materials: cotton fabric, cotton batting, rayon thread, tissue paper pattern, vintage mother-of-pearl buttons, vintage buttons, vintage lace (belonged to my great-grandmother), vintage clothes labels, embroidery floss, acrylic paint, gel medium, vintage Argentine “Mother’s Day” stamp
Techniques: machine quilted in a tight pattern to create a canvas, collaged with tissue paper pattern pieces, painted with a thin layer of acrylic paint, transferred with gel medium, photo transferred with transfer paper, embroidered,
Hope you like it. Send me a comment and let me know your thoughts.
And in the meantime, keep quilting.
