Time passes surprisingly quickly

I can’t believe that it’s the middle of May already. How many people have said that? How many people have remarked on how fast time passes? Whether you are having fun – as the song goes – or not, days seem to just go by fast.

Research time!!!! I decided to go explore the brain a bit … Follow me and I’ll tell you – summarized – what I found out. Fascinating stuff …

Did you know that the world’s most precise clocks run at a steady pace, messing up by only about 1 second every 300 million years?

But the brain takes those rhythmic seconds and makes its own sense of time — stretching the ticks and scrunching the tocks. But why can’t the brain keep time like a regular clock? In other words, why does time fly when you’re having fun, and why does it plod along when you’re bored?

Although we know the seconds on a clock always tick at the normal pace, most of us have experienced the ‘fourth dimension’, which is anything but ordinary. Have you ever waited in line or sat through a boring meeting and time seemed to be barely moving? Or what about when you’re having so much fun that you seem to lose sense of time altogether?

A new study from psychological science suggests that the old saying ‘time flies when you’re having fun’ might really be true, with a slight twist: time flies when you’re having goal-motivated fun. When people are experiencing positive emotions or states, they feel like time is passing faster than when they experience negative feelings, according to previous research.

“Although we tend to believe that time flies when we’re having a good time, these studies indicate what it is about the enjoyable time that causes it to go by more quickly. It seems to be the goal pursuit or achievement-directed action we’re engaged in that matters. Just being content or satisfied may not make time fly, but being excited or actively pursuing a desired object can.”

Not that I was testing this theory at all – haha – but I have spent a few enjoyable hours experimenting with a photo app on my iPhone and iPad: FotoDa. If you follow on FB and IG, you may remember seeing some intriguing photos. Some are eerily beautiful, others are bold and colourful. FotoDa merges and blends images from your phone or tablet into amazingness. And trust me, you think you’ve spent a few minutes at it, and all of a sudden, a few hours have gone by. Ask me how I know …

Here are some of those images.

Can you see why? You want to use different images, see more, create more, see what happens if … Different images will give you different results, and they are all unexpected. I am not sure what I am going to do with them yet … but I know that they offer countless opportunities. Stay tuned …

Thanks for reading. And until next week, when I post again, keep creating …
