An update on Workshops
These are the workshops that are available during April. Plus a great Conference coming up at the end of May, beginning of June. Read more to learn all about it.
The following are the workshops that still have room in them.
Rocks, Pebbles & Stones, Oh My!
In this workshop 3-hour workshop on April 12th at 9:00 a.m. Mountain, you will learn how to make these 3-D rocks and then two different methods to applique them to your work. No sewing machine necessary as all work is done by hand. As an option, kits that contain most of the supplies needed in class are available online. You’ll need to provide scissors, a glue stick and a pen/pencil. Different fabrics for backgrounds available. Some new background colours in stock now!
Text on Textiles
Text, script, calligraphy, letters and numbers in all fonts, shapes and forms – these are some things that I am instantly attracted to. Phrases that catch my attention, letter forms, words … It seemed like a natural extension to add text to my work using free-motion quilting. It’s all about what YOU want to say and how YOU want to say it.
This 3-hour workshop will take place on April 15th at 9:00 a.m. Mountain. Using a favourite quote, lyrics or just train of thought, you will learn about spacing, threads to use to make text legible or illegible, and how to free-motion quilt the text.
No experience necessary. Open to all levels.
Simple Landscapes with Stitch and Paint
Landscapes are always popular, and simple landscapes even more so. In this workshop, students will work on a small landscape – approximately 15″ x 24″ to learn the technique of cutting simple curves without marking and sewing them without pinning!
This is a 5-hour workshop, taking place on April 22nd and 29th, divided into two sessions with a week in-between to allow students to complete the work.
In Session I – April 22nd from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. – students will learn to sew the landscape and apply the design. Several methods of transferring the design to the fabric will be demonstrated. The landscape will be free-motion quilted in its entirety before the design is painted. Free-motion quilting techniques and designs that are relevant to landscapes will be demonstrated.
In Session II – April 29th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 am. – paint will be added to the design. Shading and highlighting will be demonstrated. There will be a discussion on beading and hand embroidery to finish your landscape.
I am also very pleased to tell you that I’ll be teaching at the Saskatchewan Stitchers Conference @Home from May 28th to June 5th, 2021.
I’ll be teaching a Paintstiks on Fabric workshop on May 28th from 9:00 a.m. to noon
Come to class to spend a fun and relaxing time making rubbing plates and using them on fabric with Paintstiks. Explore some ways in which you can use Paintstiks to embellish fabric and create personal prints. Paintskiks are easy to us as they are creamy and thick. Different techniques to use the Paintstiks will be shown. Beware: it’s addictive!
And on May 30th I’ll be teaching a Rocks, Pebbles & Stones Oh My! workshop. You can read all about it at the beginning of this post.
On June 5th at 7:00 p.m., to close the event, I’ll be sharing my “Creativity in Times of Covid” lecture. If you missed it before, be sure to join me then.
Here’s hoping you have a good week. Thanks for reading. And keep creating!
